MUSIC PLANTS HOPE is a lyrical retelling of the concert for plants in Barcelona.

When the world was just beginning to come back to life after months of the Covid pandemic, Spanish artist, Eugenio Ampudia had an idea -- to fill the Liceu Opera House with plants and allow them to be the audience for a special concert.

This is that concert -- in words and pictures -- from entrance to exit.

"Music Plants Hope is enthralling. I was swept away by the expressive, evocative language, just as I might be by a gorgeous symphony. This story about a quartet of musicians who perform for a concert hall filled not with people, but plants, is about caring, memory, love, heartbreak, the ability of music and hope to counter despair, and our responsibility for each other and our shared planet. The vibrant illustrations envelop the reader in beautiful, vital greenery and blossoms. A heart-filling, ultimately joyful experience that honors the sorrow, sacrifice, and community bonds that marked the COVID-19 pandemic."

"This beautiful book has it all: stunning illustrations, a nonfiction element that lends itself perfectly to use in the classroom (as does the musical piece), and the most lovely, lyrical, alliterative writing. Some of the phrasing was so powerful that it brought tears to my eyes. And this book includes wonderful supplemental information at the back of the book, including a photograph that will show curious readers what the concert looked like. I can't wait to share this story with my students and explore by listening to the music, watching the YouTube concert, and writing our own alliterative descriptions. Highly recommended for all homes, schools, and libraries!"

"The text itself was enjoyable as there was a poeticness to not only the text, but the illustrations as well. . . .Everything is good. It is strong. The colors of the illustrations pop. The image of plants politely sitting in the seats is amusing, yet also abstract, avant garde, ridiculous, bizarre and nifty. I cannot help but think I would have loved to have been a fly on those walls."

"
With MUSIC PLANTS HOPE, written by Tonnye Fletcher and art by Natalie Bruno, everything blooms when plants become the audience during a pandemic orchestra concert. The results are a swirl of emotions and a flourish of melody. This is the most beautiful way to remember 2020."
